How it works
Enter your details under "Received by" and the payer's under "Received from", then add the receipt number, date and payment method — cash, card, bank transfer or other.
List what was paid for with quantities and prices; the total updates in the preview.
Add any note, such as an order reference, and download the PDF to send or print.
Worked example
A landlord receives November rent of 850.00 and a parking fee of 60.00 by bank transfer. The receipt lists each payment as its own line, and the generator adds them up:
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Rent — November 2026 | 850.00 |
| Parking space — November 2026 | 60.00 |
| Total received | 910.00 |
The payment method (cash, card, bank transfer or other) prints under the total. The receipt does not add tax: it records what was actually paid. The rent receipt example opens this receipt pre-filled.
Common mistakes
- Writing a receipt before the money has arrived. A receipt confirms payment; for a payment you are still waiting for, send an invoice.
- Not saying what the payment was for. "Rent — November 2026, flat 3B" is evidence; "Payment" is not.
- Giving two receipts the same number. Number them in sequence, like invoices, so each one can be traced.
- Leaving out the payer's name on a cash payment, when the receipt is the payer's only proof.
When not to use this generator
- Replacing a legally required invoice or fiscal receipt. Shops and businesses that must use a registered till or an e-invoicing system still have to; this receipt is a payment confirmation.
- Tax deductions that need specific official forms, such as donation receipts with prescribed wording in some countries.
Frequently asked questions
What should a receipt include?
Who received the payment and who paid, the date, a receipt number, what was paid for, the amount, and the payment method.
Do I need a receipt for cash payments?
It is good practice, and often required for business records. A receipt is the customer's proof of payment and your record of income.
Can I use this for a rent or deposit receipt?
Yes. Describe the payment in the item line, for example "Rent — March" or "Security deposit", and add the property address or reference in the notes.
Is the receipt stored anywhere?
No. It is created in your browser and not uploaded. Download the PDF and keep your own copy.
